# U-Line wine coolers

### Four words for one appliance

Wine cooler, wine fridge, wine cabinet, wine refrigerator. One kind of appliance and this page covers all of them. The search box prefers the first, the maker’s catalog prefers the last, and what the cabinet is doing is what matters.

### Why it is not a refrigerator set warmer

A food refrigerator drives moisture out of the air; that is most of what it is for. Wine refrigeration holds humidity at a level that keeps a cork swollen and sealed, holds a temperature you chose rather than the lowest one available, and is built so that the compressor’s vibration does not reach the bottles. Same-looking hardware, different job — which is why a cabinet that has started drying out, with corks receding and labels lifting, is worth a call even while the temperature reads correctly.

### Single zone, dual zone, and what that changes

U-Line builds both, at fifteen, eighteen, twenty-four and thirty-six inches, in solid and glass fronts and panel-ready. A dual-zone cabinet has its own sensor and its own set point per zone, and U-Line’s control logs the third and fourth thermistors separately — they exist precisely for these cabinets. On a single-zone unit the same numbers are marked “does not apply to this model” in its own service menu.

### The noise question, which only matters on wine

A refrigerator that has become slightly louder is a nuisance. A wine cabinet that has become slightly louder is passing a constant tremor into the shelving, and the bottles are the reason it is worth attending to rather than tuning out. A compressor mount that has aged, a fan touching, a cabinet that has shifted in its opening — each is a small repair on its own.

### What to have ready when you call

The model number from the plate on the upper right or the rear wall inside, what the appliance is doing rather than what you think has failed, whether it is built into a run or standing in a gap, and anything showing on the display — photographed rather than described. On this make the display shows very little, so what you can see is worth more than usual.

### The maker calls it a wine refrigerator. Is that the same thing?

The same appliance, and so are wine cooler, wine fridge and wine cabinet. U-Line's catalog says Wine Refrigerator, the trade says cabinet, and almost everybody who calls us says wine cooler — which is why that is the word on this page. Which word you arrived with says nothing about what has failed.

### How cold should it actually be?

It depends what the zone is for, which is the whole reason cabinets have more than one. A serving zone for white and a serving zone for red sit at different temperatures and both sit well above a food refrigerator. A cabinet holding a serving temperature is not broken for being warmer than your kitchen fridge. Before assuming anything is wrong, compare what each zone is set to with what it is reading — and then compare both against a thermometer in a bottle of water, because on this make the display is reading a sensor that may be the problem.

### One zone is right and the other is not. Is the whole cabinet failing?

Almost never, and it is the single most useful thing you can tell us when you book. A dual-zone cabinet controls each zone separately and logs their sensors separately. One zone out points at that zone rather than at the refrigeration serving the whole cabinet, and it is a much smaller repair than the phrase "the wine cooler has failed" suggests.

### There is condensation on the inside of the glass.

That is warm moist air reaching cold glass, and on a sealed cabinet the only way in is the door. It is a seal or an alignment — the cheapest repair on this site to correct and one of the more expensive ones to leave, because the same moisture is going into the cabinet and onto the labels.
