# U-Line: The DRAIN lamp is lit

### What the appliance is actually doing

The maker’s line: lights up to indicate activation of the drain valve. On its own that is the machine doing its job — the drain valve opens as part of normal operation and during cleaning. It becomes interesting when it stays lit, or when it is lit at the same time as water is appearing where it should not be.

### Quoted rather than interpreted

>
Drain Lamp: Lights up to indicate activation of the drain valve.

From Control Operation, in a User Guide & Service Manual downloaded from U-Line’s own site. Nothing on this page is decoded beyond what that sentence says.

### What to do about it

- Note whether it is momentary or constant. A lamp that comes on and goes off is the valve working.
- If it is on constantly, look at the drain side of the machine — the hose, the run to the drain, and on a pumped installation the drain pump itself, which has its own logged error, P1.
- Check the floor and the cabinet base under the unit. A drain problem on a built-in machine shows up as damage to joinery before it shows up as a puddle.
- During a cleaning cycle this lamp is expected. If it is lit alongside the other two flickering, the machine is asking for its cleaning cycle rather than reporting a drain.

### Where this goes next

The job this usually becomes is [drain pump and drain repair](/services/drain-pump-and-drain-repair/), and every one of those pages carries a starting figure and the reasons that move it. If it turns out to be nothing — and on this make a real share of these are modes rather than problems — the visit ends there and you pay the diagnostic and nothing else, or call [(305) 851-2207](tel:+13058512207) and describe what the display is doing before booking anything.

**u line ice maker leaking water** and a lit drain lamp belong on the same page, because on this machine the drain is where that story usually starts.
