# U-Line ice maker repair cost

### What moves this figure on a U-Line

Three parts of the machine with three prices. The water side is usually the cheapest and is checked first for that reason.

A bin arm resting up and a fill limit knocked out of position stop a perfectly healthy machine, and those visits end without a part.

### What the figure includes

Labor and the ordinary parts for the job, unless the page says otherwise. It does not include work found once an ice machine is out and open — that is quoted separately, in writing, before it is done. Nothing is opened on a spoken price.

### Why nobody can price this over the phone on this make

On a brand that puts a decoded number on the display, a phone call narrows a repair to two or three possibilities before anybody drives anywhere. U-Line does not: every manual says the same sentence, that all errors are logged in memory and only the door error is displayed and has an audible signal. The log is real and it is behind a hidden key held for ten seconds. So the narrowing happens on site, with the log read and a measurement taken, and the figure above is where that visit starts.

What moves this figure

from $185, and what changes it

Confirmed on site, agreed in writing

The diagnostic fee credited toward the work

Water, harvest or cold

Three parts of the machine with three prices. The water side is usually the cheapest and is checked first for that reason.

Whether anything is broken

A bin arm resting up and a fill limit knocked out of position stop a perfectly healthy machine, and those visits end without a part.

Whether the unit has to come out

Nearly every U-Line is under a counter and many are behind a custom panel. Taking the appliance out of joinery, working on it and aligning it back into the run is real time, and on an integrated door it is joinery work with an appliance attached. It is quoted rather than absorbed.

Whether the model is still in production

Twenty of the seventy-six are not, some since the 2000 Series. On those, parts availability is most of the conversation and it is worth having before the work rather than during it.

### Is the diagnostic fee credited toward this?

Yes. It starts at $95 and comes off the bill when you go ahead with the work, so on a repair we carry out it is not an extra line. If you decide not to go ahead, you pay the diagnostic and nothing else.

### Why a range and not a price?

Because one number over the phone is either a guess or a ceiling, and both are worse for you than a starting figure with the reasons attached. It matters more on this make than on most: U-Line keeps its errors in memory and shows only the door error on the display, so there is genuinely nothing to read out to us before somebody is in front of the appliance. What you get before anything is opened is not a range — it is a written scope and a written price.

### My unit is old. Is it worth repairing?

That is a real question here and we will answer it rather than dodge it. Twenty of the seventy-six models in U-Line's catalog are out of production, and the current range publishes between $1,909 and $6,219. The same repair on a small out-of-production beverage center and on a large dual-zone wine cooler are not the same decision, and you should hear which one we think this is before the work rather than after it.
