# U-Line variable-speed compressor and inverter repair

What this involves

Inverter driver diagnosed before the compressor is condemned

Compressor speed read and set from the service menu

Priced apart from a conventional start problem, because it is one

Establish which kind of machine it is

A variable-speed compressor with an inverter is not the same appliance as a fixed-speed one with a relay and an overload, even where the cabinets look identical. The model number settles it.

Read the speed the control is asking for

The service menu exposes compressor RPM, and the down arrow steps it in hundreds. A compressor being asked for the wrong speed and a compressor that cannot deliver it look the same from outside the cabinet.

Then the driver, then the motor

In that order and not the other way round. The driver is the cheaper part and the more common failure, and condemning a compressor first is how the smaller repair becomes the largest one.

And a straight answer about what is left

If it is the compressor, that is sealed-system work and it is priced as such. On a unit still inside the maker's own sealed-system warranty, we say so and the visit ends there.
