Where the model number is on your unit

It depends on the appliance. Inside the fresh food compartment on a refrigerator, usually high on the left or right wall. On the edge of the door on a dishwasher. On the frame inside the door on a wall oven or a range. Behind a filter on a hood. Inside the door frame on a microwave, a washer or a dryer. Behind the grille at the bottom on an undercounter cabinet, and inside the door frame on a wine cellar.

Take a photograph rather than writing it down. The full number includes the letters after the digits — those decide which parts fit, and they are the part people misread most often.

What a repair costs
A hand holding a phone up to photograph a blank brushed metal plate inside the door frame of a built-under refrigerated cabinet, the phone screen dark and empty, the cabinet interior lit cold behind it, pale joinery around.

By what it is doing

Or start from the symptom

If the cabinet is built under a worktop and the plate is inside it, start from what it is doing. Twenty-two symptom pages say what to check first and when the answer is a mode rather than a failure.

  • A refrigeration compressor and condenser tubing at the back of a cabinet, warm from running, seen in a dim service light with the cabinet pulled forward
It hums, it lights up, and nothing is cold

    Not cooling but still running

The most common call on this make and the one with the cheapest answer hiding inside it. Before anything is opened, two modes have to be ruled out — one of them lights the display, works the light and deliberately stops the refrigeration.

    What it usually means
  • The lit interior of a refrigerator: a bottle of separated milk, covered dishes, a limp lettuce, a dial thermometer in the middle, water beaded on the shelf
It works, but it never quite arrives

    Not cold enough

A cabinet that is cold, but not at its set point, and never has been since something changed. On this make that pattern has a specific and documented cause that shows nothing on the display, which is why it gets lived with for months.

    What it usually means
  • A compressor and its condenser tubing in the machine compartment of an undercounter cabinet, seen in a dim service light with the unit pulled forward, the fan blade caught still and the metal warm from running.
Ten minutes on, forty minutes off, over and over

It cycles on and off in a strange rhythm

This one is worth its own page because the rhythm is a diagnosis. U-Line publishes the numbers: when a zone sensor fails, a 2000 Series unit runs ten minutes on and forty minutes off, whatever the cabinet actually needs, and says nothing about it.

    What it usually means
  • An empty ice bin pulled out and held level, a few loose cubes fused into a lump in one corner and the rest bare plastic
Water in, harvest, water out — in that order

    Ice maker not making ice

The most searched thing about this make by a wide margin. Almost every cause is on the water side rather than the cold side, and the first three checks cost nothing and are the answer more often than everything else put together.

    What it usually means
  • A narrow stainless door ajar in dark cabinetry with one small red light on the blank fascia, a plain white bottle on the floor beside it
Nothing on the panel, or nothing after it

Ice maker will not turn on

A machine that shows no sign of life is a power question before it is a repair, and the maker publishes the order to ask it in. Two of the four checks need nothing but a screwdriver and none of them involves a part.

    What it usually means
  • The back of an undercounter ice maker pulled forward on the floor, the water line and the drain pump hose visible behind it, a towel under the joint
Where the water goes matters as much as where it comes from

    Ice maker not draining

Standing water in the bin, water under the unit, or a machine that stops with a full reservoir. Half the diagnosis is a question nobody asks first: does this installation have a drain pump at all, or does it run to a gravity drain?

    What it usually means

Your number is not listed?

This is a list of what people ask about, not of what we repair.

76 numbers have pages here because those are the ones people search for by number. We work on the rest of the range as well — the pages simply follow demand rather than the catalog.

Tell us the number from the data plate and what the unit is doing, and we will tell you what the machine is, what the symptom usually points at, and what the work involves. Call (305) 851-2207, or send a photograph of the plate through the form above.

Before you book

Questions about models and parts

Is a twenty-year-old unit still worth repairing?

Usually, yes. These were built to be repaired, and a legacy cabinet in good condition with sound cabinetry is worth keeping. Where it stops being worth it is when the work approaches what the unit is worth, or when a second major failure is already visible — and we will say so on the visit rather than after.

Can you still get parts for the older units?

For most of what fails, yes — OEM parts are available on order, though legacy parts can take a few days to source. That is why we confirm a part is the problem before ordering it rather than after.

Why do you not list the specifications for each model?

Because we cannot verify them. Capacity, dimensions and production years published second-hand are wrong often enough that a table of them would be a liability, and inventing one would break our own rule about publishing only what we can stand behind. What we do publish is what the number means for the repair.

The number on my unit has letters after it. Does that matter?

Yes, for parts. The digits identify the family; the letters identify the configuration, and two units sharing the same digits can take different components. Photograph the whole plate and we will read it from there.

Do you work on the current range as well?

Yes, the whole current range. These pages exist because a number is what people search by; everything else this maker sells is covered on the appliance pages.

About these model numbers

Where your U-Line model number is, and what the letters in it mean

The plate is inside the cabinet — on the upper right wall or on the rear wall behind the bin — and it carries a model number and a serial number. Send both. On this make the model number is not decoration: it is the only thing that says which control board is in front of you, and the two boards in this catalog do not report their errors the same way at all.

Read the number in three parts. The first letters are the family — UR is a refrigerator, UH the Seamless build, UO an outdoor cabinet, UACR and UMCR the compact ones. The digits are the width in inches: 115 and 124 are the 1 Class at fifteen and twenty-four inches, 515, 518 and 524 are the 5 Class. The last letters are the door and the finish. Two cabinets that look identical behind matching panels are often different classes taking different parts, and only the plate separates them.

The list on this page is the current US line as the maker publishes it: 76 models — 25 refrigerators, 17 wine coolers, 16 beverage centers, 10 ice makers, 6 ice machines and 2 convertible freezers. Twenty of them are out of production and stay listed on purpose, because a cabinet built into a kitchen here in 2009 is still a cabinet somebody needs repaired. Twenty-six are outdoor units and four more are the Marine series at 230V, which in South Florida is not an edge case — it is a good part of why people buy this make. Six are ADA height.

Which class you own decides how the appliance reports a problem. The 1 Class and 5 Class log fifteen numbered errors in memory and show you only the door; the 3000 Series does the opposite and writes its errors on the display in words — No Comm, Zone T Open, Temp Hi 12H+. The Home and Seamless boards keep a service menu whose own manual points at an appendix the document does not contain, so nobody can decode those from paper, us included. That is why the first question on a call is the model number rather than what the display says.

If your number is not listed, it is almost certainly an earlier generation rather than an omission, and we repair those too. Send the model and serial off the plate and a line about what the cabinet is doing, and we will tell you what we are bringing to Miami.

Send the plate, and what it is doing.

A photograph of the data plate and a line about the symptom is enough for us to say what is likely and what it should cost.
