U-Line ice maker will not turn on
A machine that shows no sign of life is a power question before it is a repair, and the maker publishes the order to ask it in. Two of the four checks need nothing but a screwdriver and none of them involves a part.

Four ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
Sabbath mode
Display lights off, machine running. Easy to enable by accident and it looks exactly like a dead control.
Diagnostic visit from $95 -
The control panel locked
On the current cabinets a padlock icon and five seconds of holding it. A locked panel reads as a failed one.
Interior lighting and BrightShield repair from $135 -
Power, in the maker's own order
Voltage at the wall outlet, voltage at the control's input, continuity of fuse F1, then a test display. Most controls are cleared somewhere in that sequence.
Control board and display repair from $245 -
The display and its wiring
The manual's own row for a dead display is both ends of the display wiring firmly connected, then a continuity test. A loom is a fraction of a board.

None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.

01
Hold the light button for three seconds
On a nugget machine that is how Sabbath mode is enabled and disabled, and in that mode every display light is off while the machine keeps making ice.
-
02
Look for a padlock
On the current cabinets a locked panel is unresponsive and is unlocked by holding the open padlock icon for five seconds.
-
03
Check the outlet with something else
On a built-in machine the outlet is behind the appliance and nobody has looked at it in years.
-
04
Listen with the door open
A machine that is silent and one that is running quietly are different problems, and the second one is not a power problem at all.

About U-Line ice maker will not turn on
Rule out the modes before the power
On a nugget machine, holding the light button for three seconds enables Sabbath mode, and in that mode every display light goes out while the machine carries on making ice. Hold it three seconds again. If the panel comes back, nothing was ever wrong.
Dark is not the same as dead
Two settings on these machines turn the display off while everything else carries on. Sabbath mode is one button held for three seconds and it takes every lamp with it. A locked control panel is another. Both look like a failed board from the front and neither is.
The maker's own order for a real power problem
Voltage at the wall outlet, then voltage at the main control's input, then continuity of fuse F1, then a test display cycled for operation. Four checks in that order, and most control boards are cleared somewhere inside them — which matters, because the board is the expensive part and the one people replace first.

Before you book
Questions about U-Line ice maker will not turn on
It was working this morning.
Then start with power and with what else happened this morning. A breaker, an outlet behind the unit, or somebody holding a button while cleaning the panel are all more likely than a control that failed in six hours.
The panel lights up but nothing happens.
That is not a power problem. Look at whether the panel is locked, whether the machine is in a mode, and whether water is arriving — a machine waiting for water looks idle.
